Lammerskraal Stud have enjoyed a fine run of success lately with their resident sires Go Deputy and Visionaire, and the farm was back in the limelight at Scottsville, with two Lammerskraal bred runners finding the winners box.
First of the Lammerskraal Stud bred horses to score was impressive 2yo Marsala, who made a winning debut for trainer Michael Roberts over 1200m.
Backed down to start a well supported 7-1 chance, the beautifully bred filly ran on smartly to score a neck victory for owners Tinus Gericke and Bruce le Roux and Marsala looks a smart sort in the making.
By the very exciting sire Gimmethegreenlight, Marsala (a R325 000 purchase from last year’s National Sale) is out of G3 Prix du Cap runner up Vermilion –herself a daughter of Lammerskraal’s late, great broodmare Nacarat.
Second Lammerskraal bred winner on Wednesday came in the form of the Glen Kotzen trained New Fort, who romped to a convincing one and a half length win over 2400m for owner Mr Soal.
A five-year-old son of former champion sire Fort Wood, New Fort has thrived since arriving in KZN and Wednesday’s was his fourth win from his last five outings.
Now a five time winner, New Fort was produced by G1 Woolavington 2200 runner up Next Spring.
