The Lammerskraal Stud bred Knights Templar impressed when shedding his maiden at just the second time of asking this weekend.
A regally son of Dynasty, the handsome 3yo colt came from well off the pace to get up close to home in the 1400m maiden plate and win going away for trainer Justin Snaith, jockey Richard Fourie and owner Jack Mitchell.
Knights Templar, who had been fourth on debut over 1250m at Durbanville, impressed his rider, who admitted after the three parts of a length win that, “He is a horse who blows you away in work. There is plenty more to come!”
Sunday’s winner is the eight winner produced by Lammerskraal’s outstanding mare Strawberry Lane –South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year for 2017-2018.
A full-sister to G3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Jalberry (the dam of graded stakes winners Love To Boogie and Purple Diamond), Strawberry Lane’s previous winners include the G1 winners Solo Traveller (Cape Guineas) and Redberry Lane (Garden Province Stakes).
Knights Templar, who is bred on the same Dynasty/Jallad cross as the G1 winners Eyes Wide Open, It’s My Turn and Liege, was originally a R4.5 million buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
